For starters vs. Yanks with no Burrell
UPDATE, 5:52: Manager Joe Maddon said he plans to have Burrell back at DH on Saturday, that tonight's decision was just to get Aybar, who was the only position player not used in the first three games, involved. Maddon said Burrell is working very hard and Maddon believes he is just missing his pitches now.
UPDATE, 4:19: RHP Jeff Niemann said he was still stiff and sore but didn't have much of a bruise the morning after being hit on the right shoulder by a line drive. He"ll rest today, play catch Saturday and push his normal between starts bullpen session back to Sunday, when the Rays will have a better idea if he'll be able to make his next start on Tuesday - he said today he remains hopeful. ... LHP J.P. Howell threw today, but gently as the ball was in a sock as the first step of his rehab from shoulder weakness. He said he will play catch from 45-feet on Saturday. Howell said he definitely felt stronger and in his opinion was "ahead of schedule" but also figured it would still be mid- to late-May before he would be back. ... And in the "Hmmm ..." category, Rocco Baldelli took early batting practice with the other Rays. He is working as a special advisor in the minor-league system and also trying to rebuild strength in his shoulder.
DEVELOPING: Willy Aybar is at DH tonight as Pat Burrell, and his .111 average, are on the bench.
