Status quo for now ....
Any changes to the Rays bullpen remain on hold until at least after Sunday's game in Miami, and perhaps until just before Tuesday's game at Tropicana Field.
Manager Joe Maddon said late Sunday morning he had not yet spoken with executive VP Andrew Friedman about the situation. "Nothing yet,'' Maddon said. "There's nothing new to report right now. Maybe by the end of today or something would be possible, but nothing right now.''
The Rays seem to be considering bringing up RHP Dale Thayer, who is 4-0, 2.35 with 14 saves at Montgomery, and had 27 saves in each of the previous seasons in the Southern League, but has never pitched above the Double-A level.
The most likely candidates to go are struggling RHPs Tim Corcoran and Chad Orvella. If Thayer is brought up he would have to be added to the 40-man roster, meaning someone else would have to be taken off, likely designated for assignment.
If the Rays want to stick with relievers on the 40-man roster, RHPs Seth McClung and Ruddy Lugo and LHP Jeff Ridgway are possibilities.
C Dioner Navarro, struck in the throat Friday by a bounced pitch, said he is ready to return to action. CF/2B B.J. Upton remains sidelined until at least Tuesday.
