Survey says Maddon is game's smartest manager
According to a survey certain to elicit debate from Palm Harbor to Pinecrest, Joe Maddon is the smartest manager in the game.
A Men's Journal survey of 100 Major League Baseball players gave that distinction to the Rays manager by a 5-percent margin over Angels skipper Mike Scioscia. Maddon got 25 percent of the vote; Detroit's Jim Leyland (8 percent) was third. Other subjects covered in the poll include least-respected manager (Marlins' Ozzie Guillen, 36 percent) and most obnoxious fans (Phillies, 36 percent).
"One Tampa player commended Maddon for 'letting his players be themselves, be men,'" according to a news release from the publication, which releases the results of its complete survey in its July issue.
Wonder if the magazine has time to insert "Bay" after Tampa before going to press.
