Tampa Bay Rays to hold free coaches clinic



The Rays will host a free coaches clinic as part of the team's youth baseball training program. It will be held Saturday, Jan 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Tropicana Field.

The “Learn How to Play the Rays Way” Coaches Clinic will be held on Saturday, January 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Tropicana Field. Open to all youth league coaches, the clinic will provide a unique opportunity to learn from a major league coaching staff. The clinic will feature professional advice and instruction from members of the Tampa Bay Rays major league and minor league coaching staffs and Eckerd College head baseball coach Bill Mathews. Rays third base coach Tom Foley, pitching coach Jim Hickey, hitting coach Derek Shelton and minor league field coordinator Bill Evers will provide instruction to the youth league coaches.

The clinic will consist of six stations with each consisting of a lecture and live demonstrations on techniques and drills. The Rays coaches will also conduct a question-and-answer session to conclude the day’s activities. In addition, representatives from St. Anthony's Sports Medicine will provide tips and instructions on injury prevention.

With enrollment limited, coaches are encouraged to register on Attendees should park in Lot 6 or 7 and enter Gate 1.
