Tampa Bay Rays rehab updates; Riggans, Perez and Iwamura
Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon gave some updates on some players who are currently rehabbing injuries.
Maddon said 2B Akinori Iwamura came out well after his first game with Triple-A Durham Friday night, when he went 0-for-2 with a run. Iwamura swung the bat well, ran well, as Maddon said "everything is normal."
*However, OF Fernando Perez, rehabbing from left wrist surgery, has taken a little respite from his minor league assigment due to a slight neck tweak, Maddon said. Perez had finished his rehab stint with Class-A Port Charlotte.
Maddon said Perez has looked good in batting practice and should be returning to his rehab assignment relatively soon.
*C Shawn Riggans, who was sidelined in his rehab stint in Durham due to a rib cage injury, is working his way back. Riggans had been on the DL for most of the season with shoulder tendinitis.
Maddon said he received some good reports on Riggans, "Physically, he's gotten better as far as moving behind the plate, blocking the ball, throwing the ball, etc. He seems to be moving forward with that." Maddon, however, doesn't know when Riggans will return to game action with the Bulls.
