UPDATE: Kazmir deal expected to be done shortly - after game

UPDATE, 7:31: Not sure how good of a poker player Angels manager Mike Scioscia is, but here is what he just told reporters in Anaheim: "There's a lot of speculation out there. There is nothing imminent.''

He wouldn't comment specifically on Kazmir, and declined to define "imminent."

But he also said that Angels GM Tony Reagins "talks to clubs every day. There is nothing out there right now that seems like it is going to happen.''

UPDATE, 7:05: Hmm .. Now word is there won't be any announcement until after game. That could mean there is a hitch, or it could mean there is just some protocol to be followed in Rays officials talking to Kazmir.

UPDATE: 6:22: Maddon spoke to the media but said he couldn't say anything, for now, about the potential deal. Kazmir went back into the clubhouse, which is now closed to the media because it's within one hour of the scheduled game time.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are expected to send the Rays LHP Alex Torres, a 21-year-old from Venezuela who was 13-4, 2.75 between Class A and AA this season, and 3B Matt Sweeney, 21, an 8th round pick in the 2006 draft who is hitting .299 with 9 homers and 44 RBIs at Class A.
We have also heard there may be a player to be named later coming to the Rays.

UPDATE, 5:40; Latest word is there will be an announcement of the deal within an hour. Kazmir was just on the field and said he was playing catch with David Price for the last time. "It was our routine,'' he said, then asked reporters, again, if they had gotten official word yet.

UPDATE, 5:28: Now reports the trade has fallen through.Still nothing from Rays. Still hearing it may happen.

UPDATE, 5:25: Maddon's office door is closed. There's also talk that the game might not start till after 9 due to the rain.

UPDATE,5;20: Kazmir said he talked to his agent and was told the Rays were still working on things.

UPDATE, 5;01: Still nothing from the Rays. Word we've heard is that Kazmir will be traded for 2 minor-leaguers and a player to be named later and it will be announced shortly. The Rays save the $22.5-illion they owe Kazmir in 2010-2012.

UPDATE:4:58:Manager Joe Maddon's usual pre-game media session pushed back from 5 to 5:30. Kazmir, meanwhile, is going into the pre-series meeting of Rays pitchers; "Why not,I don't have anything else to do."

UPDATE, 4;45: Rays still saying they can't confirm anything. Kazmir on phone in clubhouse.

DEVELOPING; Scott Kazmir is still in the Rays clubhouse in exercise shorts and said he hasn't been told anything about a deal and thought reporters who asked him about it were kidding. "I don't know what's going on, I'm waiting to hear more," he said. "As of right now I"m still a Ray. .... It's weird."
