Upton 'available' today, expects to start Friday

CF B.J. Upton said the tightness in his right quad had subsided today and he was available to come off the bench in today's game and expects to be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against Oakland.

"It's good, it's all right. Last night it just wouldn't loosen up for me,'' Upton said. "Today I feel good enough to come off the bench. ... I'm planning on being in the lineup tomorrow. It's not that big of a deal, just precautionary measures. That's not it.''

Upton also got a little philosophical in discussing the AstroTurf at the Trop: "Turf's not real; it's artificial. And anything that's artificial normally isn't good.''
With Upton out today, Desmond Jennings is back in centerfield and Brandon Allen starts in left. Further, manager Joe Maddon had already planned to give Ben Zobrist the day off.
