Upton: I'll be ready for opener
CF B.J. Upton (back) said he is feeling better and even though no date has been set for his return to game action he expects to be in the lineup April 6 against the Yankees. "I don't anticipate missing Opening Day,'' he said. Upton has been out since the March 14 collision with Desmond Jennings.
OF Sam Fuld (wrist) said an MRI exam and visit with Dr. Doug Carlin showed more issues with the tendon and sheath in his right wrist and he will get a second opinion from Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic before deciding on rehab or surgery. "There's a couple ways we can do it,'' Fuld said. "I don't know yet.'' If Fuld does rehab, he likely won't be ready for opening day; if he has surgery he expects to be back before the end of the season. ""It's a little different but it's the same basic thing as last year,'' he said, with the source of the pain due to the sheath being stretched out.
SS Reid Brignac (foot) said he is feeling better and if he gets though a minor-league game today well expects to play in the big-league game on Wednesday.
