UPDATE, 10:52: Maddon said Upton is unlikely to play Tuesday but the Rays don't consider it a serious injury or expected to result in an extended absence. Upton said he was not going for an MRI and would come in Tuesday and see how it felt. He said he "overextended" his right arm before hitting the wall, that the muscle kind of "went numb" and "it started to hurt a little bit" and that after the game it began to feel tight.

UPDATE, 9:47: Upton left the game with what the Rays said was a right shoulder strain and is considered day to day, according to the team announcement.

DEVELOPING: CF B.J. Upton left Monday's game after running into the wall in the eighth inning.

Upton was chasing Delmon Young's hit and had several steps to slow down and was bracing himself for the collision. He appeared to injure his right shoulder, as he took one practice throw and then decided against another and came out of the game.

 Upton has had a history of shoulder issues, including surgery after the 2008 season on his left shoulder.
