B.J. Upton doesn’t like going to hospitals, not even when it involves family members.
But he went over to All Children’s on Saturday afternoon to visit Dom, a 16-year-old battling a life-threatening illness, and both were better for it.
“I guess when he saw me it changed his whole mood. He knew exactly who I was, and he had a big smile on his face,’’ Upton said. “It’s probably one of the tougher things I had to do, but I’m glad I did. It gives you perspective.’’
Upton brought Dom (the hospital doesn’t release last names) a signed bat and ball and a gift bag, but couldn’t necessarily deliver everything he asked for: “He wants me to hit a home run. I couldn’t promise that, but I told him if it happens I’d wink at him on camera.’’
