Upton seems set for Friday
The Rays had been talking about having CF B.J. Upton rejoin them for tonight's series finale in Toronto, but that apparently won't happen.
Upton is headed back to Tampa after playing both games in a doubleheader at Double-A Montgomery on Wednesday night and, logically, will take a day to rest with the expectation he will be activated off the DL and join the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins at the Trop.
Upton has been rehabbing from lower back soreness that sidelined him since a March 14 outfield collision with Desmond Jennings.
After having him play both games on Wednesday, it didn't seem prudent for the Rays to have him fly to Toronto on Thursday morning, play one game, then fly back home after the game.
Word is that Upton feels good after the 10-day rehab assignment and is ready to go.
