What about that Zimmer bear?

zimbear.jpg

No one around the Rays on Wednesday seemed quite sure what to make of the Don Zimmer bear that will be a giveaway at the June 29 game. Most of all, Zimmer, the 81-year-old senior adviser.

"What can I say?,'' he said, looking over a photo. "There it is. Wait till my kids see this.’’

Zimmer did say he'd ask for a couple dozen to give the grandkids, but otherwise .....

Reaction around the Rays clubhouse was, at the least, entertaining. A sampling:

"It's Zim - it's cuddly, it's warm, it's cute. It's something you definitely don't want to take to bed with you.''
- Rays manager Joe Maddon.

“I don’t want my 2-year-old putting that in the crib – that could be life-altering right there. … I think it’s more appropriate on a grown-up’s desk.”
- Maddon, again

“It looks like he’s in his pajamas, his onesie.’’
- LHP J.P. Howell.

“Oh my gosh … It’s lovable. My kid will definitely enjoy it.’’
- OF Sam Fuld
