Wife of Rays senior VP Gerry Hunsicker passes away after long battle with cancer
Irene Hunsicker, the wife of Rays senior VP Gerry Hunsicker, died Thursday afternoon at Houston Hospice. She was 60.
Mrs. Hunsicker battled cancer for nearly a decade, most recently B-and-rare T-cell lymphomas, according to the Houston Chronicle. Mrs. Hunsicker, who grew up near Philadelphia, worked as a nurse and hospital administrator. She led fundraisers for cancer research and became a patient advocate at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Here's the full story by the Chronicle's on Mrs. Hunsicker .
Along with her husband, Mrs. Hunsicker is survived by a daughter, Kelly. According to the Chronicle, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests purchasing a 'Forever Irene' rosebush through the Antique Rose Emporium at 800-441-0002 or weareroses.com. A percentage of proceeds benefits the T-cell lymphoma research of Dr. Barbara Pro at Philadelphia's Fox Chase Cancer Center. (In the check's memo section, please write, "Dr. Pro's Research.")
My deepest condolences go out to Gerry and his family.
