Winter meetings report: Bartlett-for-Reimold rumors
UPDATE, 2:28: Rays are talking with O's about Bartlett, and it's for more than Reimold, likely a reliever. Sound like something could happen.
DEVELOPING: The latest Jason Bartlett trade rumors at the winter meetings involve Orioles OF Nolan Reimold, with the Baltimore Sun suggesting it could happen as soon as today. No word from the Rays at this point, which isn't unusual.
Reimold, 27, had a strong 2009 rookie season, hitting .279 with 15 homers, 45 RBIs and an .831 OPS in 104 games, though it ended early due to the need for surgery on his left Achilles in September. But he didn't have much of a 2010 season, getting off to a slow start as he recovered from the surgery, and played in only 39 big-league games (.207-3-14) while spending most of the time at Triple-A.
Reimold, who hits righthanded, would be under the Rays control for five seasons, which would make the deal appealing as Bartlett is one year from free agency and will make more than $5-million in arbitration.
