Winter meetings report: Today, it's Garza rumors, but hang on

UPDATE, 2:31: Garza isn't going anywhere, at least not according to manager Joe Maddon. "Matt Garza will be pitching for us,'' Maddon said this afternoon, adding how he loves the way rumors fly at this time of year.

DEVELOPING: Much of Tuesday was filled with rumors about SS Jason Bartlett, who is still likely to be traded at some point but certainly did not go to the Orioles as was heavily speculated.

Today, RHP Matt Garza is the topic of considerable speculation, even though the Rays have made it pretty clear they are not planning to trade any of their starters. An ESPN Chicago report says the Cubs are "one of four teams in the mix for Garza,'' with the Brewers and Rangers previously reported to express interest.

Meanwhile, the Carlos Pena deal with the Cubs is official and he will address the media here at 1 p.m.
