Zimmer to return for 63rd season, Boroski too

UPDATE, 7:22: Zimmer was pleased with the opportunity to return: “What can I say, people have been good to me. Every year in September people always ask me if I’m coming back. And I always say, you never know if you’ll be asked back. If you’re asked back, then you make a decision.’’ When executive VP Andrew Friedman called to ask, Zimmer said he did not need much time to decide. “Definitely not,’’ he said. “As long as I can make it, as long I feel good enough to get up in the morning, I’ll be there.’’

DEVELOPING: The Rays will bring back senior advisor Don Zimmer, for his 63rd season in pro ball, along with assistant to pitching coach Stan Boroski. Zimmer, 79, will be in his 8th season with the Rays. “We’re excited that Zim is returning to our staff,” said Rays Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman in a team release. “He is a constant resource for coaches and players alike, and a great asset to our entire organization.”
