Crain set for next step, could be game-ready next week
RHP Jesse Crain had a third strong bullpen session on Friday with no issues from his previously strained shoulder, and if all goes well will face hitters for the first time on Monday at the Trop.
And if that batting practice/simulated game goes well, Crain, acquired July 29 from the White Sox, said he could be game ready as soon as mid-week.
"It depends on how I feel and how it goes,'' Crain said. "It's something I can probably tell the most how I feel and if I'm ready or not, and I won't know that until I go out there and face those guys. I think if it goes real well, I think I can be ready maybe a day or two after that. It depends on what they want to do and it depends on how it goes. It all depends.''
Crain threw 35 pitches in the bullpen Friday, and used his full repertoire.
