Escobar out tonight, uncertain of return
UPDATE, 6:06: Maddon said they have not even talked about the DL as a possibility for Escobar, and the plan is for him to DH on Saturday and return to the field Sunday, and at worst he would be back by Monday. Maddon also said that the fact that Escobar was home in Miami and not getting treatment made them want to be more cautious.
DEVELOPING: SS Yunel Escobar is not in the Rays lineup tonight and said his hamstring remains sore and he is uncertain of when he will return.
However, Escobar also said he does not think he will end up going on the DL.
"I'm going to try to be back as soon as a I can but right now I have no time limit, we don't know yet,'' Escobar said, with teammate Joel Peralta interpreting.
Escobar left Sunday's game with tightness and said though the soreness is going away slightly, he is still bothered in every day movements.
"I feel it every time, in eveything, even walking, in every movement I make,'' he said.
Escobar said the Rays want to be cautious.
"They're going to take it easy on it and they don't want to rush and miss a month or two so they're going to take it easy and see how it goes today,'' Escobar said,
Escobar hoped to go through a pre-game workout including batting practice and taking some ground balls.
He had not undergone an MRI yet, but said if he didn't feel better soon he would.
The Rays could backdate a DL stay to Monday, but Escobar still would miss the entire 10-game trip, but Escobar said he didn't think it would be necessary.
"No, I don't think we're going to get there,'' he said.
