For starters: Rays at Astros, in avoid mode
UPDATE, 12:46: Rays lineup, with Forsythe getting a day off, Longoria a DH day and Dickerson at the top. ... Snell said ankle feels better today and he expects to make next start. ... Rays are on track to activate Cobb on Monday; his final rehab start went well.
DEVELOPING: The Rays wrap up their weekend series in Houston this afternoon, and there are two big things they are trying to avoid:
* Having already lost a series to the Astros for the first time since 2008, the Rays are trying to avoid getting swept.
* And starter Chris Archer is seeking to avoid his 18th loss, which would tie Tanyton Sturtze for the dubious team mark. Sturtze lost 18 during the miserable 2002 season.
After losing starter Blake Snell to a leg bruise one batter into the fourth on Saturday night, the Rays made a roster move to add an arm to their taxed bullpen, calling up RHP Steve Geltz from Durham and sending down OF Mikie Mahtook.
Geltz's stay is likley to be short, however, as the Rays have to make room on Monday to activate RHP Alex Cobb, who is at the end of his rehab assignment and has to come off the DL.
