UPDATE, 3:50: The Rays lost 5-0, limited to 3 hits. ... LF Jaff Decker made a spectacular leaping catch to rob ex-Ray Reid Brignac of a three-run homer, earning praise from Cash. .. 1B James Loney had one of the Rays hits, a double to RF.

UPDATE, 3:46: Archer was relatively pleased with his 4 2/3 inning outing, more so about how he finished than what he felt was too "passive" of a start.

UPDATE, 12;16 In addition to making the formal announcement that Chris Archer would be the opening day starter, manager Kevin Cash had a few other update in his pre-game media session:

* INF/OF Steve Pearce is taking batting practice and ground balls back in Port Charlotte in hopes of getting past the right calf tightness that has kept him off the field for nearly a week.

* RHP Matt Andriese, scratched from his Sunday start due to abdominal muscle soreness, is supposed to throw off the mound Tuesday.

* RHP David Carpenter, signed last week to a minor-league deal, is slated to make his first exhibition appearance on Tuesday,

* The Rays plan to announce Tuesday what players are going on the March 20-22 trip to Cuba, with Cuban OF Dayron Varona among them. LHP Matt Moore is lined up to start.

* There also are expected to be cuts on Tuesday,

UPDATE, 9:38: Lots of rain on the way to Disney but it is expected to clear by this afternoon. Here is the Braves lineup:

DEVELOPING: The Rays face their longest trip of the spring today in playing the Braves at Disney's Champion Stadium at 1:05.


As a result, they won't have too many familiar faces on the field besides All-Star ace Chris Archer.

Based on what was posted in the clubhouse Sunday, their lineup will look like this:
