For starters: Rays at D-backs, with Archer on the hill
UPDATE, 7:15: The Rays have rookie OF Wil Myers in centerfield tonight, a position he played extensively in 2012 in the Royals minor-league system. ... LHP Matt Moore played catch again today, at a distance of 90 feet, and said his elbow continues to feel good. He will take Thursday off and play catch again Friday with the aim of throwing off the mound by Sunday.\
And for the D-backs:
DEVELOPING: The Rays take the field tonight needing a win to extend their streak of non-losing series to 14 and have Chris Archer, the American League's Pitcher and Rookie of the Month for July, on the mound.
The Rays, who lost 6-1 to Arizona on Tuesday, have not lost a series The Rays are in danger of their first series loss since since dropping two of three in Boston June 18-19, a main reason for the extended run of sucess that pushed them back near the top of the AL East race.
Archer was tremendous in July, though not as sharp in his last start vs. the Giants on Friday. He said he learned some things from that outing, and is ready for tonight. Also, he, unlike some of the others, said he is not all that excited by the chance to hit, focusing much more on his pitching.
The D-backs are starting RHP Randall Delgado. The Rays have limited experience against the former Brave, though rookie OF Wil Myers did face him in the 2011 Futures Game, here at Chase Field.
Myers comes into tonight's game having reached base in 20 straight games, four shy of the Rays rookie record of 24 set by Rocco Baldelli in 2003, and seven off the major-league for this season, set by Jose Iglesias, of Boston and now Detroit.
