For starters, Rays at Indians
Update 12:28 p.m. The Rays have set their rotation for the Tigers series, moving LHP Matt Moore up to start Tuesday, followed by RHP Alex Cobb Wednesday and RHP Roberto Hernandez Thursday.
Cobb said the move "made sense," not holding Moore back another day after his rain-shortened, one-inning start Friday. Cobb said the cut around the fingernail of his right middle finger is pretty much healed, but giving it an extra day can't hurt.
*Manager Joe Maddon said CF Desmond Jennings is just getting the day off, combined with Monday's off-day. Maddon likes how Jennings has come along since getting moved to the seventh spot, that his strike zone is better organized.
*Maddon said they decided not to make a move to augment their bullpen - meaning LHP Alex Torres will remain and be the long man for the time being - because he felt the group was covered. RHPs Fernando Rodney, Joel Peralta and LHP Jake McGee should be available tonight.
*Maddon raved about C Jose Lobaton, saying his improved play all around - hitting, blocking, throwing - stems from an internal feeling of "belonging" in the big leagues. Maddon can tell conversationally, how Lobaton is being himself, and picking things up.
Developing: The Rays, having snapped their six-game winning streak in Saturday's loss, will try to bounce back in a series-ending matinee today at Progressive Field.
They'll need a solid start from RHP Jeremy Hellickson, who was not so happy with his last outing, when he lasted just 5 1/3 innings against the Marlins. The key will be him keeping the ball down, like he has when he's had success.
Expect Ben Zobrist, who had Saturday off, to be back in the lineup today, and potentially atop the order again.
The Rays could make a move today to augment their bullpen, as LHP Alex Torres threw four innings yesterday. We should also know when LHP Matt Moore will make his next start.
The Rays will have an off day tomorrow in Detroit before starting a three-game series with Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers.
Lineups, and more, to come.
