For starters: Rays at Orioles, on a long day
UPDATE, 4:40: After losing the opener 5-0, here is the Rays lineup for tonight's game, with Oswaldo Arcia making his first start:
UPDATE, 11:45: Arcia said he was excited for the new opportunity, and expected the Twins to do something with him since he wasn't playing much. ... Since being DFA'd June 16 he spent the interim time in Minnesota working out. ... He isn't in the lineup for the day game basically because he hasn't played in 12 days and the Rays need to be a bit cautious. ... Farquhar said he has been pitching better at Durham, with his velocity up from 90 to 94. He also said it's a bit weird to know he is only up for the day.
UPDATE, 10:36: With two games today and four in a 45-hour span, manager Kevin Cash figured to get a bit creative with his lineup, and he did a bit for the matinee, with Tim Beckham at SS and batting sixth and Jaff Decker in CF. Also, of note, Arcia, idle since June 14 with the Twins, is not playing.
DEVELOPING: The Rays and Orioles will play twice today, at 1:05 p.m. to makeup an Apriil 9 rainout and then again at 7:05 in the original game that was initially scheduled for 4:05.
The Rays come into the doubleheader, the 25th in franchise history, having lost eight straight games.
RHP Matt Andriese, who was shifted from the rotation to the bullpen a few weeks ago, will start the matinee against Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman.
Rays RHP Jake Odorizzi, who had his choice of assignments, will work the night game against Orioles ace RHP Chris Tillman.
The Rays today will unveil new OF Oswaldo Arcia, acquired Friday from Minnesota.
