For starters: Rays at Pirates
UPDATE, 1:04: Just about set for first pitch on a sunny but chilly afternoon in Bradenton. For updates, follow our @TBTimes_Rays Twitter feed, which also can be viewed on the Rays page on tampabay.com.
UPDATE, 11:58: The Rays reassembled in Bradenton today after the day off, though some of the their key players got the day off, such as Evan Longoria and Yunel Escobar, who are expected to play Friday.
Manager Joe Maddon said OF Sam Fuld will likely be out until the end of next week, and DH Luke Scott until the beginning of next week, as both have hamstring tightness.
Maddon said his Wednesday colonoscopy went well, and there was really no reason to worry and nothing uncomfortable about the procedure, calling it "truly a very benign experience.''
Maddon seems very impressed with the play thus far of INF Mike Fontenot and said they wanted to see him as shortstop which he is why he is there today. And Sean Rodriguez is in left as they try to get him re-acclimated to a super utility role where he could literally play anywhere on the field.
DEVELOPING: After the first of three scheduled off days this spring, the Rays are back in action today, playing the Pirates at newly renovated and alwasy charming McKechnie Field in Bradenton.
There should be medical updates on Luke Scott and Sam Fuld, both of whom have been out of action since Sunday due to hamstring tightness. And some quips from manager Joe Maddon, who underwent - successfull - his first career colonoscopy on Wednesday.
Here is the lineup, as posted in Port Charlotte;
