For starters: Rays at Rangers
UPDATE, 7:03: Sounds like Niemann won't see the doctor until something during the game tonight, and there may not be any kind of definitive announcement tonight.
Here is the Rays lineup:
And for the Rangers:
DEVELOPING: With their trip already off to a rough start as the team bus was involved in a minor accident, the Rays open the road portion of their schedule tonight at Texas in the first of a 10-game, 11-day trip that also takes them to Boston and Baltimore.
The Rays already made some news in trading C Robinson Chirinos to the Rangers, who assigned him to Triple-A, and could have more as RHP Jeff Niemann is scheduled to get a second opinion today on his sore right shoulder, with surgery likely.
The Rays are 3-12 alltime in road openers, including 2-5 under Joe Maddon. This is the first time they open against an AL West team.
RHP Jeremy Hellickson will be on the mound for the Rays tonight as he celebrates his 26th birthday. This will be the sixth time a Rays pitcher has started on his birthday, and they are 4-1, including Hellickson beating the Yankees last year.
One other note, in the first six games Joe Maddon has used six different batting orders.
The next one should be posted soon.
