For starters: Rays at Red Sox, ALDS Game 1
UPDATE, 1:48: Rays Maddon said he felt good about Rodriguez in leftfield over Joyce. Rodriguez has started two games in leftfield at Fenway, and is comfortable with the Green Monster. The key, he said, is to be on his toes at all times. ... There has been light rain this morning and early afternoon, with batting practice canceled for both teams (in essence to be fair since rain could have cut it short for one team). Maddon said they were told there could be a slight delay to the start of the game but shouldn't be any interruption. .., Jennings is still not 100 percent, Maddon said, and likely will be replaced in the final innings. Those options are reduced a bit with Kiermaier not on the roster. ... Archer will be used in relief, and Maddon said it was possible he could be used in short stints several times during the series or in a longer stint. ... LHP David Price admitted that the thought has cross his mind that his time with the Rays could be ending after this season, but he has avoided those thoughts the last few weeks and is focused on the game. "I want those thoughts to stay away,'' he said. "I want to enjoy my time here. Whatever happens, I want to completely absorb myself and my team, and my teammates like we have all year. And that's a big part of why we're here right now.'
UPDATE, 1:34: Rays lineup has Rodriguez in left, Lobaton catching:
Red Sox lineup:
DEVELOPING: The Rays are set to renew a heated rivalry as they open the best-of-five AL Division Series against the Red Sox this afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 3:07 p.m. - and rain in the forecast.
The Rays will have LHP Matt Moore on the mound; his last start at Fenway was a good one - a two-hit complete game shutout on July 22. Overall, Moore is 2-2, 3.86 vs. the Red Sox. Also of interest, he is 10-1, 2.74 on the road this season, and the Rays are 14-2 in his starts,
The Sox are starting lefty Jon Lester, who finished strong this season and is 12-9, 4.30 in 26 games vs. Rays. He is Is 2-3, 2.57 in eight postseason appearances, though winless since ‘08.
The Rays are expected to have Jose Lobaton behind the plate, as he has been Moore's somewhat regular catcher. Jose Molina started the tiebreaker and wild-card games.
Delmon Young seems likely to be the DH, though there is a question if Matt Joyce might be in the lineup - he started only three games vs. lefties this season, all against Lester.
Lineups when available.
