For starters: Rays at Red Sox
UPDATE, 6:26: The Rays are moving in the right direction for a deal with top draft pick C Nick Ciuffo, though nothing is official. They are not as far along with RHP Ryne Stanek, their second pick.
UPDATE, 6:02: With Myers now the primary rightfielder, Maddon acknowledged that Matt Joyce wil get most of the playing time in left, and that the main lineup decision will come down to Johnson or Scott at DH. Maddon did say Myers will get occasional days off against tough righthanders, and that there may be days when Joyce is the DH and Johnson plays left. ... Maddon said he had no specific information about Alex Cobb's schedule for recovery, such as whether he will or won't pitch again this season, just that the Rays will be cautious. Also, he said that Cobb has had headaches and some fluid buildup in his ear. ... Though Alex Torres might seem a good option for the struggling rotation, Maddon said the Rays consider him more valuable in the relief role his is filling and are working to use him in later, higher-leverage situations and more frequently, eventually on back to back days.
UPDATE, , 4:53: Wil Myers is again hitting sixth and playing rightfield, and Evan Longoria is again back at third base, the most interesting lineup decision being Kelly Johnson over Luke Scott at DH.
Here is the Rays lineup:
UPDATE, 3:24: The Red Sox have former Ray Jonny Gomes in the lineup again today, after he beat them last night with a walkoff homer in the ninth, his third-game-deciding homer off Joel Peralta in his last four at-bats vs. him.
DEVELOPING: After a long day that included a doubleheader loss to the Red Sox, a three-hour rain mid-game rain delay in the opener, and the debut of top prospect OF Wil Myers, the Rays take the field tonight to wrap up their series with the Red Sox.
The Rays - who have lost eight of their last 10 - will start struggling RHP Jeremy Hellickson, coming off another confounding outing in which he blanked the Royals for five innings and then allowed eight runs in the sixth.
The Sox will counter with RHP Ryan Demster.
Myers is expected back in the lineup today after going 1-for-7 in his debut, hitless in four at-bats in the opener, then singling his first time up in the nightcap.
The Rays head to New York after the game to open a four-game series with the Yankees.
