For starters: Rays at Red Sox, with a shot at the top
UPDATE, 4:38: There have been heavy showers on an off all afternoon, so there will be no batting practice on the field. ... Myers said his wrist felt better and he was "good to go" though he hadn't taken any swings yet.
UPDATE, 3:34: Myers is back in the Rays lineup, hitting cleanup. Also of note, Matt Joyce is the DH with Luke Scott off.
Red Sox lineup:
DEVELOPING: The Rays take on the Red Sox tonight - weather permitting - with a chance to take over first place in the American League East.
Having been in last place as recently as the morning of June 24, and having been as much as seven games out as recently as the morning of June 28, the Rays take the field tonight one-half game behind the Sox.
The Rays are on a stunning and record run, having won 14 of their last 15 games, 18 of 20 and 21 of 25.
They will have a challenge extending that tonight, however, as they are starting RHP Roberto Hernandez, who is 5-10, 4.90, against Boston LH Jon Lester, 8-6, 4.58.
The Rays are hoping to have rookie OF Wil Myers back in the lineup; he sat out the last two days with a sore left wrist.
There are reports the Red Sox are close to a deal with 2B Dustin Pedroia on a seven-year, $100-million extension.
There has been rain throughout the afternoon already in Boston, and the forecast is for more tonight intermittently. Also there is a flash flood watch in the area.
Lineups when available.
