For starters: Rays at Rockies, with Snell on the mound
UPDATE, 6:58: The Rays have taken RHP Alex Cobb off his rehab assignment, meaning he won't make another rehab start until July 25 at the earliest, with the idea being he will have more time to work on his mechanics in the bullpen. By doing it this way, the Rays can resume the 30-day clock when ready. ... Cash said there was no talk or plans to pull struggling LHP Drew Smyly from the rotation, and that they talked today and all are optimistic about his next start.
Here is the Rockies lineup:
UPDATE, 4:50: Pearce is not only active, but back in the Rays lineup, playing 1B and hitting fifth. Dickerson, as expected, is playing; Souza is not
DEVELOPING: After letting another game get away on Monday night, the Rays take on the Rockies tonight with rookie LHP Blake Snell on the mound.
It should be an interesting experience for Snell, who plans to stay away from his usually effective curveball as a concession to the altitude and is faced with hitting for the first time in a game since high school in 2011.
The Rockies are starting RHP Tyler Chatwood, which means Corey Dickerson, whom the Rays got from Colorado, is expected to be in the lineup against his former team. Dickerson had a rough return on Monday, striking out as a pinch-hitter then making an error.
The Rays have INF/DH Steve Pearce back after a nearly month-long stint on the DL due to a hamstring strain, having activated him after Monday's game and sent Nick Franklin back to Triple-A.
