DANIEL WALLACE | Times

Jeremy Hellickson will face the Royals' Luis Mendoza.

UPDATE, 7:12: Maddon said he has been impressed with how Johnson plays the OF and thought this was a good park to see him in with a fly ball pitcher ...Maddon said he is hearing the forecast is favorable for tonight but is very skeptical of the playing tomorrow.

UPDATE, 5:41: The weather forecast for tonight's game appears to be improved, with the heavier rains not expected until around 11 p.m., though with temperatures dropping into the low 50s. The forecast for Thursday, however, remains a mess, with heavy rain throughout the day and temperatures in the 50s.

DEVELOPING: Without the obvious sub-plot of facing their former ace in James Shields, the Rays are back on the field tonight in Kansas City to face the Royals again.

RHP Jeremy Hellickson, an Iowa native who will have about 50 friends and relatives making the trip down, will be on the mound for Rays, facing Royals RHP Luis Mendoza.

The Rays have DH Luke Scott in their lineip again after his 0-4 return from the DL on Tuesday. it is interesting that with Hellickson, a fly ball pitcher on the mound, they have Kelly Johnson in LF, with Ben Zobrist at 2B and Matt Joyce in RF.

Here is the Rays lineup:

Jennings cf
Joyce rf
Zobrist 2b
Longoria 3b
Loney 1b
Escobar ss
Scott dh
Lobaton c
Johnson lf
Hellickson p

Loney, by the way, had his fifth game of three or more hits, matching Oakland's Jed Lowrie for the MLB lead. Loney's .373 average is a Rays team record.

Former Rays INF Elliot Johnson is in the Royals lineup again tonight after getting on base three times on Tuesday:

Gordon lf
Escobar ss
Butler dh
Hosmer 1b
Cain cf
Moustakas 3b
Franceour rf
Perez c
Johnson 2b
