For starters: Rays at Twins, hoping something changes

UPDATE, 7:09: Pearce said his elbow continues to get better, though he is limited to bench duty again and may return first on Saturday or Sunday as the DH. ... Cash said they would like the starters to go deeper in games, as Matt Moore indicated in his post-game comments, but they have to earn it by pitching better. ... All day rains in Minnesota have subsided temporarily anyway and the tarp was taken off the field.

DEVELOPING: Having lost five straght and 11 of 13, the Rays tonight again take on the Twins in a battle of the teams with the worst records in the American League.

There has been rain much of the day in Minneapolis, but weather.com forecasts a window to play tonight.

RHP Jake Odorizzi. coming off his sterling but frustrating outing Sunday against the Yankees, will be on the mound for the Rays. RHP Ricky Nolasco, who has had trouble against the Rays, will be on the mound for the Twins.

INF Steve Pearce is out of the lineup again for the Rays as they hope rest helps his sore right elbow.
