For starters: Rays at Twins, seeking sweep on Price's day
UPDATE, 1:16: With Triple-A Durham winning the IL title on Saturday, the Rays may make a few more additions to their roster, with the possibility that INF Tim Beckham - the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 draft - could join them for Monday's game. After Durham plays the AAA championship vs. Omaha (Royals) on Tuesday, RHP Jake Odorizzi and LHP Jeff Beliveau are likely to be called up as well. ...Maddon said the MLB rule should be changed so that the starter should be able to get the win in a rain-interrupted game, as happened to Matt Moore last night when he pitched 3 innings but was not eligible and Brandon Gomes pitched one and got it. ... Maddon said he thinks Zobrist should be refreshed after being off Saturday.
UPDATE, 11:39: Zobrist indeed is back in the Rays lineup and Escobar is moved up to 7th:
DEVELOPING: The Rays are feeling better about themselves after three straight wins, and would feel even better if they can complete a three-game sweep of the Twins today before heading home for back-to-back series with the wild-card contending Rangers and Orioles.
Improving their chances, they have ace LHP David Price on the mound, coming off a dominating, albeit losing, outing vs. the Red Sox on Tuesday. Also, Price has lost his last three starts (the Rays scoring only five runs while he was in the game) and he has never lost four straight.
2B Ben Zobrist is expected back in the lineup after getting what he and manager Joe Maddon agreed was a much needed day off as he was 0-for-his-last-15 and getting visibly frustrated.
The Twins are starting another soft-tossing rookie lefty today in Pedro Hernandez.
