For starters: Rays at Yankees, aiming high
UPDATE, 6:17: Maddon said that since he wanted to have Fuld and Rodriguez in the lineup he might as well play them in the field, which is why Myers is the DH. And he wanted to keep Longori and Myers together against Sabathia, so that is why Myers is hitting third. ... Maddon said RHP Brandon Gomes, who makes a rehab appearance tonight for Charlotte is getting close to being reinstated from the DL, but it is possible he will be optioned to Durham.
UPDATE, 4:33: Wil Myers is DHing tonight and hitting third for the Rays, and Evan Longoria is second again.
And the Yankees lineup, which includes Alfonso Soriano:
DEVELOPING: It's bright, sunny and a beautiful day/night for baseball in New York today, as the Rays set inot the current Bronx Zoo looking to continue their impressive run against the Yankees.
RHP Jeremy Hellickson, who was to pitch last night's rained out game in Boston, will start for the Yankees, against LHP CC Sabathia, whom the Rays have done well against recently. Overall, the Rays are 9-1 in their last 10 games facing a lefty starter.
The Rays come into the night one-half game behind the Red Sox, who play in Baltimore, and having won five of the first six games on this road trip, 15 of 17, 19 off 22 and 22 of 27.
Also, the Rays, since splitting four games here in New York June 20-23, have won eight consecutive series. (The rainout, per Elias Sports Bureau, made it a three-game series won by the Rays in Boston, and Monday becomes a one-game series.)
The Yankees have been a mess, struggling on the field and involved in a controversy surrounding the potential return and/or suspension of 3B Alex Rodriguez. Also, they acquired OF Alfonso Soriano from the Cubs, and he is expected back in uniform tonight.
