For starters: Rays at Yankees, seeking to avoid a sweep
UPDATE, 12:17: For record-keeping purposes: #Rays go into play today with a "tragic" number of 2 to be eliminated from division race, 4 from wild-card race
UPDATE, 12:10: Rays Cash said they "haven't played enough to win ballgames ultimately" and "we are all frustrated." ... RHP Chase Whitley is slated to work in relief today, which will be his first big-league appearance since May 2015 with the Yankees, before getting hurt pitching against the Rays and needing Tommy John elbow surgery. ... Kiermaier is back in the lineup, and Miller's arm is good enough to play SS. ... The Rays will wait a few more days before having LHP Xavier Cedeno throw; he has been out since Aug. 29 due to neck tightness.
And the Yankees lineup:
DEVELOPING: Having lost the first three games of the series, and not looking particularly good in doing so, the Rays seek to avoid a four-game sweep by the Yankees today.
RHP Matt Andriese will start for the Rays, seeking to snap a skid of rough outings since returning to the rotation from the bullpen. The Yankees are starting rookie Luis Cessa.
Rays INF/OF Nick Franklin could be a question mark for today after getting hit by a pitch on his foot Saturday. CF Kevin Kiermaier is expected back in the lineup after getting a day off.
Lineups when available.
