UPDATE, 3:15: The Rays have since confirmed the claiming of Burns. He will be optioned to Double-A Montgomery, and the Rays will have to make a move to create space on the 40-man roster.

UPDATE, 2:50: The Rays have claimed RHP Cory Burns off waivers from the Rangers, per mlbtraderumors.com.

Burns, 26, was 2-2, 7.44 in 20 games (one start) for Texas' Triple-A team this season. He pitched in 27 big-league games over the previous two seasons for the Padres and Rangers, going 1-1, 4.60.

DEVELOPING: After taking three of four from the Orioles over the weekend in Baltimore and 11 of their last 18 overall, the Rays hit the grand stage of Yankee Stadium tonight seeking to keep playing their way back into playoff contention.

RHP Chris Archer, who is undefeated in four starts against the Yankees, will be on the mound tonight, opposed by RHP David Phelps.

The Rays expect to - finally - have a decision today on the status of SS Yunel Escobar, who has not played since leaving last Tuesday's game with a sore right shoulder. He is scheduled to go through a full workout this afternoon so the Rays can either set a return date or place him on the DL.

In their recent hot streak, the Rays have moved from 15 games back to 10, and feel they are playing better and more confidently.

Lineups when available.
