For starters: Rays at Yankees, with Moore on the mound
UPDATE, 6:22: Maddon said there was no update as of pre-game on the status of Jennings. . ... He expects to announce Friday's starter tomorrow. .... Batting Joyce leadoff was as much as DeJesus swinging a hot bat as anything, though he did note Joyce has been walking a lot.
UPDATE, 4:37: The Rays once again have an unusual lineup tonight, with struggling Matt Joyce hitting leadoff and Wil Myers second.
Here it is:
DEVELOPING: Fresh off their four-game sweep of the Orioles, capped by James Loney's pinch-hit walkoff homer on Monday, the Rays hit the big stage of Yankee Stadium tonight as they seek to continue their march to the postseason.
LHP Matt Moore, coming off a disappointing outing vs. Texas, will be on the mound for the Rays, against Yankees RHP Hiroki Kuroda.
With six games remaining in the season, the Rays start the day one game ahead of the Indians and two ahead of the Rangers in what looks to be a three-way battle for the two AL wild-card spots. The Rays have a magic number of 5 - the combined total of their wins and Texas losses - to clinch one of the spots.
The Rays are expected to again be without CF Desmond Jennings, who is sidelined by what the team says is a mild hamstring strain.
The Rays have also yet to say who will start Friday's game, a decision that looks to be between RHP Jeremy Hellickson and RHP Jake Odorizzi.
Lineups when available.
