For starters: Rays sign top 2 picks: Josh Lowe, Ryan Boldt, Geltz returns, lineups

ST. PTERSBURG – The Rays signed their top two draft picks today – 3B Josh Lowe and CF Ryan Boldt.

“This awesome,” Lowe said. “Thank you to everybody who helped me get here.”

Lowe reports Monday to the Rays rookie Gulf Coast League team in Port Charlotte.

The Rays signed Lowe’s older brother Nathaniel, a first baseman who played at Mississippi State. Nathanial Lowe, drafted in the 13th round, will report to short season Class A Hudson Valley.

As for the big club, RHP Steve Geltz returned from Durham to replace RHP Ryan Garton, who was optioned after Thursday’s game.

3B Evan Longoria returns to the lineup tonight after missing Thursday’s game because of tightness in his left forearm.

Buster Posey, the catcher who the Rays did not take with the first pick in the 2008 draft is in the Trop tonight as the Giants and Rays begin a three-game interleague series.

Tonight is Pride Night and the Trop will be filled tonight with the tarps in the upper decks removed to accommodate the overflow crowd that snapped the $5 discount tickets. The proceeds will benefit the victims of the Orlando shooting.
