Evan Longoria was out for early batting practice, hitting coach Derek Shelton saying it was more a matter of repetitions than any specific issue. Managaer Joe Maddon said he remains confident Longoria is close to breaking out and is curious to see Longoria tonight and Sunday. ... Starting and relief pitchers took batting practice in prep for the NL rules trip that starts in Arizona on Tuesday. Chris Archer hit a pair of home runs, using a Wil Myers bat.
DEVELOPING: Having lost two straight for the first time in more than a month, the Rays take on the Giants again tonight and have David Price on the mound.
Price is 5-1, 1.68 since coming off the DL, and has beat the Red Sox in his last two outings at Fenway Park.
The Giants are starting the alwasy interesting Tim Lincecum, in a battle of former Cy Young award winners. Price won the AL honor last season, Lincecum the NL award in 2008-09.
Today is Rays OF Matt Joyce's 29th birthday.
The Rays haven't lost three straight since mid June.
