For starters, Rays beat Pirates 5-1 with Smyly pitching
UPDATE, 4:24: The Rays had a good day at the plate against the Pirates, notching 12 hits in a 5-1 victory. OF Desmond Jennings hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and 2B Logan Forsythe led the way, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. On the mound, LHP Drew Smyly started, throwing 3 ⅓ scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.
INF/OF Steve Pearce remained sidelined by the right calf tightness that forced him to be scratched from Wednesday's game. "He's getting better," manager Kevin Cash saidr. "Still has some soreness in there, so we'll continue to take it slow."
