For starters, Rays vs. Pirates
Update 6:50 DH Luke Scott has been scratched as a precaution due to right calf tightness.
Shelley Duncan will be DH against the Pirates instead.
Scott was sidelined earlier in camp with hamstring tightness, but otherwise has been healthy, and been impressive at the plate, appearing poised for a bounce-back season.
Update 4:55 Manager Joe Maddon said they haven't officially decided on the final bullpen spot yet, though with the deadline on veteran Jamey Wright looming Tuesday, we should know soon. The Rays appear leaning towards keeping Wright, but have to tell him Tuesday whether he'll be on the roster, put on the DL, or given a retention bonus.
Even if RHP Brandon Gomes, who is also competing, does not make club, Maddon said he'll be a big part of their season, and future.
*Maddon said the decision on the final rotation spot will possibly come Wednesday, and the second catcher will be picked in "next couple days." So by the time the Rays move camp to Tropicana Field Thursday, Maddon said "you should have a really good idea what's going on."
*Maddon said he thinks he's getting closer to figuring out a lineup vs righties, and likes Monday's look with Zobrist and Scott before Longoria and Joyce fifth. Maddon said, typically, Joyce would be a better on-base guy in front of Longoria, but Scott has been swinging the bat better as of late. Maddon said, based on if Scott or Joyce is hotter, they could be flipped like this.
"When you look at the lineup, it looks really good. It looks really nice," Maddon said. "You just trying to get something that feels good."
Update 2:45 OF Sam Fuld got six at-bats (0-for-5 with a walk) and played five innings in center during a minor league game, saying he felt good and tested his right hamstring again. Fuld said he'll take Tuesday off, and plan is to play in the Rays home finale in Port Charlotte Wednesday. "Everything's good," he said.
RHP Kyle Farnsworth said his bruised right middle finger is better, that he threw all his pitches yesterday with no issues. He plans to make his regularly scheduled appearance Wednesday, then Saturday.
Update 2:10: Here's the Rays lineup
Developing: The Rays will go under the lights tonight in Port Charlotte to face the Pirates.
LHP Matt Moore will be on the mound, happy to be in a big-league exhibition after his scheduled start last week was rained out in Fort Myers. He threw a simulated game the next day, but the Rays are looking for a confidence-building outing out of their talented lefty.
Also scheduled to pitch tonight is RHP Brandon Gomes, who is competing for the final bullpen spot but may be the odd-man out to veteran RHP Jamey Wright.
There should be a lot of regulars in tonight's lineup, especially those who didn't make the trip Sunday to Tampa (like Evan Longoria, Yunel Escobar, etc).
OF Sam Fuld may play in a minor league game today so that they can get him more reps, as the Rays won't likely put him in a big-league exhibition until they're absolutely certain he's a go for Opening Day.
Lineups, and more, to come...
