For starters, Rays vs. Red Sox, on Alex Cobb's day

DEVELOPING: After Jake Odorizzi, Jeff Beliveau and Kirby Yates combined to hold the Red Sox to one hit in a 7-0 win on Saturday, the Rays will hand the ball today to Alex Cobb, trying to improve their slim playoff hopes.

Despite a rough outing in Baltimore on Tuesday, Cobb is 7-0, 2.14 over his last 11 starts, and has allowed two or fewer runs in his last nine. He is 2-2, 4.19 in seven starts against the Sox.

The Red Sox are starting RHP Clay Buchholz, who is having a rough all-around year as the lone veteran left in the Boston rotation.

The Rays are expected to be without CF Desmond Jennings again today, as he rests a bruised left knee. SS Yunel Escobar may be back in the lineup after getting Saturday off following a rough week in which he made three throwing errors and a number of other misplays and missed plays.

Lineups when available.
