UPDATE, 5:33:  Duffy said he was surprised and disappointed to be traded, but excited about joining the Rays. He acknowledged the shift from 3B to SS will take some time to get comfortable with the footwork and the timing. .... There will be 3 Rays in the lineup for the Stone Crabs on Thursday, with RHP Alex Cobb starting, Duffy playing SS and Mikie Mahtook slated to DH. .... Cash said Shaffer was a better fit to the roster than Motter, who can play anywhere on the field. ...

UPDATE, 5:08: The Rays made another roster move today, sending down INF-OF Taylor Motter after a one-day stint and calling up Richie Shaffer. It was not clear how long Shaffer will stay. .... Duffy worked out with the Rays and will head down to Port Charlotte to resume his rehab assigment on Thursday with the Stone Crabs, with a rough target of joining the Rays next week in New York. ... DEVELOPING: After losing two more games to the Royals, and 12 of their last 13, the Rays will try again tonight.

Former Royals RHP Jake Odorizzi will be on the mound for the Rays against his ex-mates, who are starting RHP Edinson Volquez.

Newly acquired SS Matt Duffy is at the Trop today, taking early BP with his new Rays teammates. Duffy is expected to go out on a rehab assignment to continue his recovery from a left Achillies strain that occurred during the Giants' June series at the Trop.
