Jeremy Hellickson will try to do his part in his 2014 debut after having elbow surgery in January.

UPDATE, 5:30: Manager Joe Maddon said OF David DeJesus and RF Wil Myers are both getting closer to returning from injury, with Myers possibly rejoining the club in mid-August. Maddon said he hopes Hellickson lasts five or six innings and about 100 pitches tonight in his first start this year after having offseason elbow surgery.

DEVELOPING: The Rays’ goal of hitting 50-50 through 100 games ended last night with a 6-0 loss to the Royals. Now the Rays will focus on manager Joe Maddon’s next goal – winning another series.

RHP Jeremy Hellickson will try to do his part in his 2014 debut after having elbow surgery in January. The Rays will go up against RHP Jason Vargas (8-3, 3.32 ERA).

The Rays have lost nine of their last 11 games against Kansas City.
