For starters, Rays vs. Yankees
UPDATE 5:22 p.m. Manager Joe Maddon said Desmond Jennings is just getting a day off the turf, but is available. OF Matt Joyce is back in the lineup, and atop the order, saying his hamstring feels just fine.
*Maddon said there's "nothing new" with LHP David Price's rehab from a left triceps strain, and he still has no "finish line." Maddon has said Price is expected to be out 2-3 starts, with it more likely on the latter end of that timeline.
*Maddon reiterated that although Fernando Rodney has struggled, he will remain the closer, and there's been no thoughts of moving him out of that role whatsoever. Maddon said the same for the rest of the bullpen, which will slot into their regular roles.
*RHP Brandon Gomes (lat strain) said he's feeling better, but making slow progress, hoping to start throwing in the next week or so. Looks like he's several weeks away.
*Maddon welcomed a special guest before today's game, Kevin Garcia, 18, a senior at Strawberry Crest High. Garcia, who plays basketball despite having scoliosis, received the Freddie Solomon Moral Courage Award at Thursday's sneaker soiree. Maddon was really impressed, inviting Garcia out today to present LHP David Price with the Rays Moment of the Year Award.
UPDATE, 3:38: Rays lineup, with CF Desmond Jennings getting a day off:
DEVELOPING: The Rays, coming off an off-day following a six-game road trip, are back at home to face the first-place Yankees at the Trop.
The Yankees have managed to stay on top despite an array of injuries to stars, including Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, but do have Curtis Granderson back. They've also picked up ex-Ray INF Reid Brignac to give them middle-infield depth.
RHP Roberto Hernandez will be on the mound for the Rays, coming off an abbreviated outing Saturday.
Should have some updates today on the rehab of LHP David Price (triceps strain) and RHP Brandon Gomes (lat strain), though OF Matt Joyce (right hamstring tightness) is expected to return to the lineup.
Lineups, and more, to come.
