Taylor Motter arrived at Tropicana Field this morning for his first day in the big leagues and was presented with a bright orange suit by Logan Morrison.
Morrison had it made for Motter during spring training. It’s a takeoff on the movie “Dumb Dumber,” and the shirt includes the monogram “Lloyd,” which was the Lloyd Christmas character played by Jim Carrey.
Manager Kevin Cash said Motter’s presence will add some excitement to the clubhouse, and it seems he is correct.
Motter, called up to replace Logan Forsythe (left scapula hairline fracture), will play as many positions as needed for the Rays, since he proved during his minor league career and again in spring training that he is more than adequately defensively while playing the infield or the outfield.
As for today, the Rays have a chance to win this three-game series against the A’s that wraps up this quick, three-game homestand.
Matt Moore (1-3, 4.83) faces Sonny Gray (3-4, 6.00) in a matchup of pitchers who have not pitched up to their potential as of late.
Moore has not pitched through the fifth inning in each of his last two starts. Gray is 0-3 with a 12.79 ERA in his last three starts.
Here are the lineups:
