Hank Conger excited to join Rays after trade from Astros
After a successful 2015 campaign with the Astros and a thus-far quiet off-season, Hank Conger was "a little surprised" to get traded anywhere, much less to the Rays, early Thursday morning.
Now he is looking forward to it.
"I'm excited,'' Conger said Thursday night from California. "More than anything I'm excited by the opportunity. I know everybody says that, but I really am. Hopefully I go in there and put on a good first impression with them.''
Conger said he is eager to start learning the Rays pitchers and is confident his struggles throwing out runners (only one of 43 last season) are behind him. "I'm not too worried about it,'' he said. "I actually feel good right now, I've been working on some stuff.''
Conger, 27, said he talked to team VP Chaim Bloom but didn't get into specifics about his role, just hoping to earn some playing time as part of the Rays catching tandem.
