Hellickson is Game 4 starter
The Rays put RH Jeremy Hellickson on the roster for a reason, as manager Joe Maddon confirmed he is the scheduled Game 4 starter.
Hellickson has had a rough season overall, but Maddon they have their reasons - "our little esoteric stuff" - to feel Hellickson is a good matchup with the Sox.
Hellickson said he was concerned about being left off the roster, and was"very happy" the Rays showed faith in him.
"I haven't really given them a good reason to send me back out there,'' he said. "It's really nice they still have confidence in me. ... Hopefully it won't go to a Game 4 but if it does I'm glad I'm going to be that guy."
Maddon did say that they would use Hellickson in relief if they needed before then, and would have to come up with another plan.
The Rays chose Hellickson for the start over Chris Archer, who was used in relief, and Jake Odorizzi. After Matt Moore works today's opener, David Price will pitch Game 2 on Saturday and Alx Cobb Game 3 on Monday at the Trop.
