Jim Hickey gets 3-year deal to remain Rays pitching coach
Pitching coach Jim Hickey has agreed to a new three-year deal that will keep him with the Rays through 2018, the Tampa Bay Times has learned.
Hickey, 54, has been with the Rays since 2007, and is considered one of the top pitching coaches in the majors as the Rays have ranked among the league's best during that span, praised by pitchers, staff, team executives and competitors throughout the game.
Hickey would be a hot commodity among other teams if the Rays let him get to the end of his contract.
Hickey was signed through 2016, but the new contract replaces that deal, presumably with a raise. Terms were not available.
