Kiermaier, Forsythe back as Rays face White Sox
Good morning from Tropicana Field -- filling in for Marc Topkin today as the Rays close out their series with the White Sox at home before heading out for a six-game road trip to Boston and New York.
As expected, the Rays get both CF Kevin Kiermaier and 2B Logan Forsythe back today -- they had both missed Saturday's game after colliding on a play in Friday's loss to the White Sox, with Kiermaier taking a head contusion and Forsythe a bruised hip and leg. The other injury note is that RF Steven Souza, who jammed a finger on his left hand reaching for the plate on a slide into home late in Saturday's win, is not starting today. Manager Kevin Cash had said after Saturday's game that he didn't expect the injury to be anything longterm, but Brandon Guyer is playing in right for the third time this season.
Here's the full lineup against Chicago lefty Jose Quintana, who is 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA:
Logan Forsythe 2B
Brandon Guyer RF
Evan Longoria 3B
Steve Pearce 1B
Desmond Jennings LF
Logan Morrison DH
Curt Casali C
Kevin Kiermaier CF
Brad Miller SS
So yes, five of the Rays' nine hitters are hitting under .200 and seven of them under .220, but Tampa Bay is coming off a season-high seven runs in Saturday's win, so they're hoping for more of the same and momentum going into series with the Red Sox and Yankees.
