Kiermaier makes key play, gets sent back to Durham
OF Kevin Kiermaier made what by all accounts - from manager Joe Maddon on down - was the play of the game for the Rays in Saturday's 1-0 win, throwing out Joey Votto at the plate in the 4th inning.
And then after the game, Kiermaier was sent back to Triple-A Durham.
Kiermaier said he wasn't bitter at all because he knew it was to be a short stay as he was called up Friday to add some depth to the bench. But the Rays needed a roster spot to added Erik Bedard to the bullpen because Cesar Ramos is starting Sunday, so Kiermaier had to go.
